ABOUT THIS LIBRARY

Why this website?

Welcome. If you love Jesus and you love the Bible, you are in good company here.

Why it exists

If you come from a Protestant church, the questions about Orthodoxy come quickly. Why do Orthodox Christians ask Mary and the saints to pray for them? What is an icon, and isn't it an idol? Isn't Tradition just adding to Scripture? What did the earliest Christians actually believe and practice?

The answers are out there, but they are scattered across websites, books, podcasts, and videos. It is easy to spend fifty hours searching for a single subject. This library gathers that information into one place, so you can spend your time learning instead of searching.

Written with Protestants in mind

This site is written first for Protestant Christians, including those who are firmly rooted in their church and have no plans to leave it. Your love for Christ and your knowledge of Scripture are not obstacles here. They are the best place to start.

You will not be pressured, argued with, or told your faith doesn't count. The goal is simply to explain what Orthodox Christians believe and why, clearly and fairly, so you can understand it for yourself. Where you agree, and where you still disagree, is yours to decide.

Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, you are encouraged to examine everything against Scripture. Explanations point to the Bible passages and early Christian writings behind them, so you can check them rather than take anyone's word for it.

Also for you

If you are just being introduced to Orthodoxy, maybe by a friend or a first visit to a service, this is a gentle place to start. Catholic readers and Orthodox Christians who want the details in one place are welcome too. You do not need to know the vocabulary or arrive convinced to begin.

What you can find here

  • The questions Protestants ask most: Scripture and Tradition, Mary and the saints, icons, salvation, the Eucharist, and confession.
  • The faith and its foundations: what Orthodox Christians believe, with the Scripture behind it.
  • What worship looks like: the Divine Liturgy step by step, prayer, fasting, feasts, and what to expect if you visit.
  • The story across the centuries: a timeline from the apostles through the Reformation to today.
  • Room to study: reading paths, sources, and twelve downloadable Bible studies you can return to at your own pace.
  • Fellowship: an optional public room to meet other readers and share what you are learning.

How to use it

Start with the question you actually have. Search for a subject or browse by section, and read a short answer, a full chapter, or a complete study. Nothing has to be read in order, and there is no rush. Take your time and come back whenever you like. If something seems inaccurate, or unfair to your own tradition, use the question form to let us know.

Information, not a church

This is an independent information hub. It is not an official parish publication, is not affiliated with any parish, diocese, or jurisdiction, and does not offer pastoral guidance or spiritual direction. No person's or organization's name is attached to it. It is not here to recruit you, only to inform you. The fellowship room is public, so please keep personal matters private.

Bring your Bible and your questions. Take your time. We're glad you're here.
